His 2009 performances for TelevisiГіn EspaГ±ola were broadcast throughout the TГЎrrega Centennial Memorial, and his 2007 performance at the Aspen Music Festival was broadcast on American Public MediaвЂ™s Performance Today. Mattias is regularly heard on radio stations such as Classic FM (U.K.), YLE (Finland) and WQXR (New York) on playlists such as Composers Weekly (TГЎrrega) and Soft Instrumental by Spotify and on YouTube. He has volunteered performances at institutions ranging from New YorkвЂ™s Mount Sinai hospital to MadridвЂ™s Soto de Real prison, and performed at the launch of the Sweden-America Foundation Centennial, at the residence of the American ambassador to Sweden.

Mattias has toured his native Sweden, under the auspices of Musik i Syd, Kultur i VГ¤st, Musik i Dalarna and Musik i Uppland, including the festivals Musik vid Siljan and Uppsala International Guitar Festival, broadcast on Sveriges RadioвЂ™s P2 Live. He has premiered two concertos, by Jakub CiupiЕ„ski and Ryan Anthony Francis, to date. He has given the North American and Nordic premieres of Mexican composer Enrico Chapela BarbaвЂ™s Melate Binario, for solo guitar, and is collaborating with Chapela Barba on a concerto for guitar and orchestra. Mattias believes in expanding the guitarвЂ™s repertoire. Mattias has performed Concierto de Aranjuez with the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Dalasinfoniettan, and with Copenhagen Classic (principals from Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Danish National Symphony Orchestra and The Royal Danish Opera). MattiasвЂ™s filmed live performance of Concierto de Aranjuez, with conductor AndrГ© de Ridder and the MalmГ¶ Academy Symphony Orchestra, was featured by the workвЂ™s publisher Schott Music in the essay вЂњBerГјhmte Gitarren-Werke,вЂќ on significant works for the guitar. In 1966, MГ¶llerstrГ¶m was introduced by Eduardo Sainz de la Maza to guitar maker Ignacio Fleta (1897вЂ“1977), championed by Segovia, resulting in a guitar that now has passed from MГ¶llerstrГ¶m to Mattias. MattiasвЂ™s teacher Erik MГ¶llerstrГ¶m is a pupil of Eduardo Sainz de la Maza, whose brother Regino was dedicated RodrigoвЂ™s Concierto de Aranjuez, and-together with AndrГ©s Segovia-advanced the guitar in the 20th century. His performance was chosen for The MetвЂ™s Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, where it complements the essay вЂњThe Spanish Guitar,вЂќ which spans the 14th to 21st Century. His recording of вЂњCome, Heavy Sleep,вЂќ from BrittenвЂ™s Nocturnal after John Dowland, was made in collaboration with Albert Augustine for The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Mattias is inspired by the human voice, and often plays music rooted in song.

ItвЂ™s chosen as Album of the Week by Classic FM (U.K.) and WQXR (New York), and heard on several editorial playlists on Spotify.

InvocaciГіn is produced by 19-time Grammy Award-winner David Frost, and named EditorвЂ™s Choice by Gramophone. The album explores Chopin's influence on the modern classical guitarвЂ™s central figure, Spanish composer Francisco TГЎrrega, and also features TГЎrregaвЂ™s own legacy, through his pupils Emilio Pujol and Miguel Llobet. His full-length recording debut InvocaciГіn introduced the notion in recent history that the modern classical guitar tradition is influenced by FrГ©dГ©ric Chopin. Mattias Schulstad is a Swedish classical guitarist who has made recordings, performed as soloist with orchestra, and developed the guitarвЂ™s repertoire.
